Waghya, a mixed-breed sight hound, loyal companion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is the most famous dog in India. Showing remarkable, but suicidal, loyalty, Waghya threw himself upon the Maharaj’s burning funeral pyre.  1680.
